Kyle Dubas Reveals What He Plans To Do With His Draft Picks
The Pittsburgh Penguins President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Kyle Dubas revealed in a recent interview what he is planning to do with his draft picks.
Chances of seeing the Penguins draft 30 players are quite thin, in my opinion, which opens trade discussions.
Indeed, a lot can be done on the trade market with all those assets, and Dubas could be looking to pull off some massive deals.
In a recent interview live from the NHL Combine, Dubas opened up on how he plans to make his team better by the start of the next season.
Dubas Opens Up On Offseason Plans
DK Pittsburgh Sports' Taylor Haase wrote in a recent paper that the Penguins are ready to make some moves after years of accumulating draft picks. Dubas stated that he wouldn't rule anything out trade-wise, except going after long-term veterans.
Then, he added that the team will be looking to get younger players in organizations who can't sign them due to financial restrictions, hinting at potential offer sheets as well:
"I think we look at younger guys that maybe are blocked out elsewhere or are having contract standoffs elsewhere," Dubas said. "We'll also look and see if there are players that are available because of the cap situations of their respective teams and if we can provide them a good opportunity. I wouldn't say the focus is shifting away from picks. I think our focus will continue to be on acquiring future value, whether that be younger NHL players, prospects or picks.»"
The Penguins will definitely be among the teams to follow closely in the coming weeks. Stay tuned for all the latest developments ahead of the NHL Draft and free agency.
