Penguins' Sidney Crosby's special moment was all caught on a live feed, as the captain was mic'd up and could be heard expressing his pure joy.

Sunday night, Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby stepped onto the ice for the 1,387th time in black and gold. He came in with 644 goals and 1,079 assists, just one point shy of tying Mario Lemieux for the franchise record.
The milestone didn't take long. Seven minutes into the first period, Crosby got his stick on an Erik Karlsson slapshot, tying Lemieux.

How Sidney Crosby became the Penguins' all-time points leader

Less than a minute later, on the power play, his slapshot was deflected out front and finished by Rickard Rakell, giving Crosby his 1,724th point and making him the Penguins' all-time scoring leader.
The moment was electric. Teammates swarmed him in a bench-clearing celebration, and the entire arena erupted. Crosby was mic'd up, and the live feed captured every bit of his joy, his excitement, and disbelief coming through loud and clear.

Why Sidney Crosby does not want to take all the credit

After the game, Crosby spoke about what it meant to join the conversation with Lemieux, emphasizing how much he respects the franchise's history. But in his eyes, there's only one number one, and that's #66.
"It's really special," Crosby said. "You know, to be here as long as I have been, so many guys have contributed to that, so many different teams and groups. I obviously have a ton of respect for Mario and everything that he's done for this team, and for hockey in general. It's pretty special."

"I don't think you can put a stat line or a number on what he means to this team and to hockey. In my mind, he's still No. 1."
