Bryan Rust was brilliant in a Penguins loss on Sunday, and now his Head Coach has opened up on the admiration he has for the veteran forward as it looks like the team will finish their 2024/25 season without a Stanley Cup Playoffs berth.
While the Pittsburgh Penguins fell just short against the Florida Panthers on Sunday, the team picked up a point in the shootout loss on the back of an incredible game from veteran forward Bryan Rust.
The veteran was brilliant in defeat, tallying an assist and two beautiful goals that showed just how good he still is at the top level, and while they fell short, these two goals were utterly fantastic.
After the game, Head Coach Mike Sullivan was asked about Rust's play and the way he has handled himself this season, and unsurprisingly, the coach was full of praise for his veteran forward.
He's an inspiring player. He gives you an honest effort every night. He's got a great attitude. He's a great teammate. He's a born and bred Pittsburgh Penguin and he's a multiple time Stanley Cup Champion.
After being behind the bench for so much success led by Rust,
Sidney Crosby,
Evgeni Malkin and Kris Letang, it's easy to see just how much the players mean to Sullivan, who clearly has great admiration for his veterans.
In 61 games this year, Rust has a solid 25 goals and 54 points, showing that even as he approaches his mid-30's he can still get it done, and with a good veteran core around him, this Penguins team is much better than their record shows, and if they can make the right moves, this won't be a team to ignore in 2025/26.
