Even though the Penguins were unsuccessful in finding a trade partner over the summer for Bryan Rust, a new report from analyst Bruce Garrioch indicates he could still be traded from Pittsburgh at some point this season.

The Pittsburgh Penguins have fallen on hard times after starting the new season with a far better record than most fans and analysts would have guessed was possible, considering most had them projected to miss the playoffs for a fourth straight year.
But the Penguins have crashed back to Earth by having now lost seven games, including six straight on home ice at PPG Paints Arena, which is now the worst homestead in team history.
Per a new report from analyst Bruce Garrioch, the Penguins are not only looking to move both Connor Clifton and Matt Dumba, but they are also still interested in potentially moving Bryan Rust.
The Penguins aren't sellers, but they are trying to move defencemen Connor Clifton and Matt Dumba, who cleared waivers last week.

A league executive told us a team might be able to acquire Pittsburgh winger Bryan Rust, who is signed to a deal that will pay him $5.25 million a year until 2027-28. The asking price there would be high because the Penguins really don't want to deal him. - Bruce Garrioch
So far this year, Rust has 28 points (12G, 16A) in 31 games and is on pace to once again reach at least 30 goals.

Bryan Rust Was Heavily Involved In Trade Rumours During The Summer

The Penguins were expected to move on from both Rust and fellow right-handed forward Rickard Rakell during the summer.
But despite his efforts, GM Kyle Dubas was not able to find a trading partner for either player, and they both remained with the Penguins to begin the new season.
Rust still has two years beyond this current season under contract with the Penguins with an AAV (average annual value) of $5,125,000.
