One key Penguins analyst is sharing a controversial take on goaltender Tristan Jarry's job status, especially after he was waived and struggled most of this season.

It was a mostly rough year for Pittsburgh Penguins goalie Tristan Jarry, who found himself struggling and even relegated to the American Hockey League during a particularly rough time.
While Jarry played well in the AHL and even earned a call up back to the Penguins and seemed to turn the corner at first, he would eventually return to his old struggles as the Penguins would miss the playoffs for the 3rd straight year, marking the longest drought that they've experienced outside of the postseason in 20 years.
Jarry is still under contract through 2028, and while some thought that Penguins GM Kyle Dubas could consider cutting his losses and buying out the last remaining years of Jarry's deal, one Pittsburgh analyst is singing a different tune.
Seth Rorabaugh of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review stated in his review of every Penguins roster player that while it wasn't a perfect year for Jarry by any means, he did enough to save his job for at least another year:
So, it would appear to be a safe assumption Jarry won't be on the move this upcoming offseason. A potential trade would likely require some kind of salary cap retention and/or sending away a future asset. And a buyout is an option of last resort the Penguins are wary of implementing given that a cap hit for Jarry would be on the books until 2030-31.

He concluded:
Regardless, Jarry bottomed out in 2024-25, but he did just enough at the end of the season to save his job.

Jarry went 16-12-6 with a 3.12 GAA, a .893 SV%, and 3 shutouts. The Penguins also have the duo of Alex Nedeljkovic and Joel Blomqvist under contract, both of whom will be competing for the job at Training Camp this fall.
