Penguins announce significant roster move featuring Rutger McGroarty and Joel Blomqvist
Goaltender Joel Blomqvist was also activated from injured reserve and reassigned to AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Saturday as well, after he was out with what was labelled as a lower-body injury.
What this means for Rutger McGroarty
He had one goal and two assists, 11 shots on net, five blocked shots, and 12 hits in his eight NHL appearances during the 2024-25 regular season.
Why this AHL stint is important for Rutger McGroarty
McGroarty will probably get another look with the big club at some point this campaign, but the team likely wants him to get conditioned first in the AHL.
Turning our attention back to Blomqvist, he was in the hunt to start the season with the Penguins, but was placed on injured reserve before it even began.
He will get plenty of playing time with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton in the AHL and could find himself back in the NHL very soon, especially if
Tristan Jarry continues his absence from the Pittsburgh lineup for an extended period with his lower-body issue.
Penguins supporters will no doubt be keeping a close eye on the progression of these two young Penguins in the weeks ahead.
