Penguins Could Make a Surprise Early Trade - 4 Players Who Might Be on the Move
The Penguins always seem to be involved in trade rumors as of late, with four unexpected names now coming to the forefront as to who could be moved.
Before training camp, General Manager Kyle Dubas indicated that veteran roles could be in jeopardy if young players made a push for NHL roster spots.
That day has come, prompting management to consider its options: utilizing waivers or a possible trade sooner than expected.
Star Penguins Players Could Still Be Traded, But Likely not Until Closer to the Trade Deadline
Among potential candidates who may attract attention is 27-year-old
Blake Lizotte, a strong fourth-line center who has been a good producer since coming to Pittsburgh in 2024.
Undersized at 5-foot-9, Lizotte is aggressive and quick, and he provides energy, forechecking pressure, and a nose for the net, which is the type of depth-quality forward contenders desire.
Defenseman
Ryan Shea, age 28, has a low $900,000 cap hit and might be a steal in a one-for-one trade, as he could really produce on a good team.
Connor Dewar, while being a solid fourth-liner since his arrival from Toronto, might be fulfilling a role that is there for an incoming younger player who is ready for a promotion.
Tommy Novak, who played only five games due to injury since his arrival from Nashville, is still a good playmaker but hasn't had room to gel quite yet.
If truly committed to bringing in youth, Penguins' Dubas and the front office will have to say goodbye to stalwart veterans soon in order to create space for youth. Those will not be simple choices, but they will dictate how the team develops this season.
Fans will be observing with great interest in the next couple of weeks how Dubas handles the situation and whether any of the aforementioned players get traded out of the city.
