Penguins prospect goaltender Taylor Gauthier has suffered another injury and is expected to miss considerable time, according to the club.
Pittsburgh Penguins prospect Taylor Gauthier is dealing once again with another injury that is expected to sideline him for some time.
Having already missed time in the minors last year, a Penguins spokesperson has said he's dealing with an undisclosed injury.
Per a Penguins spokesperson, reserve goaltender Taylor Gauthier will be sidelined longer term due to an undisclosed injury.
Gauthier is signed to an AHL contract.
Tough break for the second consecutive year. He was injured before training camp last season.
He spent last year with the ECHL's Wheeling Nailers and went 18-10-2 with a 2.68 GAA and .928 SV%.
Depending on how long he's on the shelf, Gauthier's future in professional hockey could be threatened, especially if he can't manage to remain healthy.
The Penguins are going to have a goalie competition
Speaking of Penguins goalies, Pittsburgh decided to trade
Alex Nedeljkovic to the San Jose Sharks after he had a subpar year in 2024-25.
Nedeljklovic had earned himself a 2 year extension following a strong showing in 2023-24, but couldn't duplicate his performance.
The Penguins also acquired
Arturs Silovs from the Vancouver Cancuks, and will also have
Joel Blomqvist trying to earn playing time. Another prospect goalie,
Sergei Murashov, will also try and earn playing time by having a strong showing in the preseason.
