The Pittsburgh Penguins are out of the playoffs, but Wilkes-Barre/Scranton aren't, and now they're getting a boost after the team re-assigned a forward to the AHL.

The 2024/25 campaign wasn't as successful as the Pittsburgh Penguins would have hoped, as they've long been eliminated from the Stanley Cup Playoffs race in the wide open Eastern Conference.
However, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the AHL are right in the hunt, as they currently sit in fourth place in the Atlantic Division, already having clinched a place in the Calder Cup Playoffs.
Now, Pittsburgh have given them a major boost, as the team have officially announced they have re-assigned Emil Bemstrom to the AHL, with the 25-year old failing to manage significant production at the NHL level this season in 14 games played.
In the AHL this season however, Bemstrom has tallied 21 goals and 46 points in 45 games played, meaning he'll bring a significant scoring punch down the stretch that will give them the boost they need as they battle some tough opponents ahead of the Calder Cup Playoffs.
With just a few games left in the NHL regular season, the Penguins seemingly weren't going to use Bemstrom in any significant role, so demoting him to the AHL is likely the best thing for him, and while his future in the NHL is up in the air, he's already proven how good he can be at the lower level.
We will now wait and see if Bemstrom can ever be a consistent, full-time NHLer, but for now, he's got a huge job to do by giving the team a boost in their post-season race down in the AHL, and this off-season, he'll no doubt push to find a way onto the Penguins NHL roster moving forward.
