Bill Zonnon was a shock pick for the Penguins in the 2025 NHL Draft, and now the young blue liner reveals that he idolized P.K. Subban growing up.

The Pittsburgh Penguins had a very successful 2025 NHL Draft, and while fans may have been perplexed at their second first-round pick in Bill Zonnon, it's hard to ignore just how much potential the young blue liner has.
Recently, he sat down with NHL.com, and in that interview he unveiled his childhood idol, and given the way he plays, it's no surprise that his answer was former Norris Trophy winner P.K. Subban.
"I think the biggest thing I took away from [Subban] is just being yourself. He was not scared of what other people thought or what they were going to say about him. So just being myself, not changing for anyone else."

While Zonnon has no doubt taken plenty away from other players by watching them on TV or playing alongside them, but it's the flair, the confidence and the swagger of Subban that Zonnon carries with him, something that he brings to the Penguins organization that they may have been lacking.
"I think it's just confidence. You don't really need to show it or talk about it. But once you step on the ice, that's when you really feel confident. That's when I really let my confidence show, not really off the ice. Mostly on the ice, I'm a confident player. I work pretty hard at my craft, so why not have some swagger when you get on the ice?"

Last season in the QMJHL, Zonnon tallied a ridiculous 83 points in 64 games played, and with fantastic size at 6-foot-2, it's easy to see why fans are getting on board with the selection, and if he can turn out even half as good as Subban, the Penguins may have themselves a star of the future.
