Pierre LeBrun Reveals Mitch Marner's 2 Preferred Teams in Free Agency
NHL analyst Pierre LeBrun has revealed the reported clubs that Mitch Marner is interested in signing with, and fans will notice that the Penguins aren't one of them.
Toronto Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner is poised to become one of the
highest profile UFAs on the open market arguably since his teammate
John Tavares in 2018.
Both he and Tavares are currently part of Toronto's famed "Core 4" of players that also include
Auston Matthews and
William Nylander; while the latter pair of players are still under contract for several more years, the deals for both Marner and Tavares expire on July 1.
Now, speculation is growing as to where Marner will sign and how much money he'll earn over the course of what will be a massive contract.
Per NHL analyst Pierre LeBrun, there are several clubs including the divisional foe Florida Panthers and Detroit Red Wings along with the Vegas Golden Knights, Los Angeles Kings, and Chicago Blackhawks that are expected to make pitches to land Marner.
Noticeably absent in that list is the Pittsburgh Penguins, who are now being run by Marner's former GM with the Maple Leafs, Kyle Dubas.
Dubas has already made a major change to the Penguins after they failed to earn a postseason spot for the 3rd straight year, removing coach Mike Sullivan after 10 years on the job; he's currently conducting the search for Pittsburgh's next head coach.
However, that doesn't mean that there's no chance that Marner decides to reunite with Dubas in Pittsburgh. Per Covers.com, the Penguins are
3rd in overall odds at +500 to sign Marner behind the Chicago Blackhawks and Philadelphia Flyers.
