Kyle Dubas has done a solid job as GM of the Pittsburgh Penguins, and now, it appears he's set to be named Team Canada GM at the World Championships.
After working with Team Canada for quite some time, he's now set for a major upgrade with that organization as well, as reports from TSN's Chris Johnston have revealed that he is likely to be named General Manager of Team Canada at the 2025 World Championships.
Ahead of the 2026 Olympic Games, it's Doug Armstrong with the St. Louis Blues that is taking on the role for that tournament, but with little NHL presence expected at the Spring World Championships, Kyle will be taking on the role.
Last year, Dubas was named to the management group that led Canada to the 2024 IIHF World Championships alongside Rick Nash, Doug Armstrong and Ryan Getzlaf, so this is clearly a step up for him in 2025.
This is another bow in the cap of Dubas, who has been regarded as one of the best hockey minds in the business, despite the Toronto Maple Leafs and Pittsburgh Penguins not finding much success under his role as General Manager.
It's unclear what the future holds for Dubas with Team Canada, as more and more international competition will give him the chance to potentially climb the ranks further, and while that's a major positive, Penguins fans will be hoping it doesn't distract him too much from his role in Pittsburgh.
