Avery Hayes gets a Pittsburgh Penguins recall, and it screams urgency after his Wilkes-Barre/Scranton scoring binge.
Hayes has been the engine down in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, and now the NHL door is swinging open again.
He’s 23, undrafted, and he’s playing like he’s tired of waiting for permission.
This season in the AHL, he’s sitting at 19-11-30 in 36 games.
That 19-goal mark isn’t just a nice note, it’s team-leading production with real bite.
He was scratched Sunday against the Bridgeport Islanders, which sure looks like a “keep him fresh” move before the call.
"Avery Hayes is recalled from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
Hayes leads Wilkes-Barre/Scranton with 19 goals this season. As of late, he has 10 goals in his past 10 games."

The bigger detail is the heater, 10 goals in his past 10 AHL games, per the report.
That kind of finish changes how a coach builds a top-six, even for one night.
Avery Hayes puts the Pittsburgh Penguins on notice
Penguins fans have been begging for life in the bottom-six, and this feels like the exact kind of chaos we can get behind.
Hayes already proved he can handle the moment, scoring 2 goals in his NHL debut on February 5.
When you score on your first shot and keep hunting, you earn more than a cameo.
His game plays simple, attack off the wall, drive inside, get pucks through legs and sticks.
If Pittsburgh’s missing finish, Hayes is the kind of call-up who actually shoots first.
One hot winger doesn’t fix everything, but it can flip a week.
