Pittsburgh Penguins Take Advantage of a Questionable Call Leading to a Ben Kindel Goal

The Pittsburgh Penguins may have gotten a break from the NHL after Ben Kindel's goal against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Monday was allowed to count.
The Pittsburgh Penguins are hoping that they can rebound from their recent loss to the Winnipeg Jets and they're off to a good start so far
in tonight's game against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
They have a 2-0 lead after the 1st period, but their second goal scored by Ben Kindel didn't go without controversy.
He appeared to bat the puck in above the height of the crossbar during a net-front scramble past goaltender
Anthony Stolarz, and it was eventually ruled a good goal despite protests from the Leafs that it should not have been allowed to count.
Per Penguins analyst Josh Yohe:
Goal counts for Penguins. For now. Was a high stick on Toronto and then puck hit off the Penguins...at least that's what the refs are saying. Leafs seem to disagree.
The goal was Kindel's fourth of the year, which is his first in the NHL.
If the Penguins can pull out a win, it would be the latest loss for the Maple Leafs, who are off to an inconsistent start this year. It would also be the Penguins' ninth win of the year, which not many would have predicted.
Penguins' Ben Kindel Is Playing In His First Year In The NHL
The Penguins took Kindel with the 11th overall pick in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft while playing for the WHL's Calgary Hitmen, and he would make the team out of training camp.
So far in his rookie year, Kindel has now scored four goals.
