The Vegas Golden Knights could soon be parting ways with pending RFA defenseman Nic Hague, and the Pittsburgh Penguins are said to be showing interest, per a top NHL analyst.
Vegas Golden Knights defenseman Nic Hague recently wrapped up the last year of a 3-year contract with the team and is set to become a restricted free agent.
With the Golden Knights expected to be big-time players in the free agency market this summer, Hague could be one of the odd men out, and his salary could be utilized elsewhere.
Per Sportsnet's Nick Kypreos, both the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Montreal Canadiens have interest in him.
Kypreos himself also recently put together a list of players likely to be on the move this summer from their current clubs, and and Hague was listed as one of the top candidates.
An RFA with arbitration rights and just one year away from being eligible for unrestricted free agency, 26-year-old defenceman Nicolas Hague is looking for big money on his next deal. Since Vegas has already committed a lot of money to Alex Pietrangelo, Shea Theodore and Noah Hanifin on the back end, Hague appears to be the odd man out at this time.
The Golden Knights also have some prospect options whom they could look at to make the full-time jump to the roster next season. Hague could be an interesting sign-and-trade player and will certainly garner a lot of interest around the league.

Hague was taken 34th overall by the Golden Knights in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft, and had 12 points (5G, 7A) in 68 games this year, his 6th with Vegas.
He also scored in Game 5 of the 2023 Stanley Cup Final against the Florida Panthers as part of the Golden Knights' 9-3 victory, helping earn the franchise's 1st Stanley Cup.
