Pittsburgh Penguins veteran forward Bryan Rust has been one of the bright spots in an otherwise trying year, and he's closing in on a personal milestone.
One of the bright spots in an otherwise mostly trying year for the Pittsburgh Penguins has been the play of veteran forward Bryan Rust.
Rust, who has played his entire NHL career with the Penguins while helping them win back to back Stanley Cups in 2016 and 2017, has routinely been a threat to reach the 30 goal mark.
While he's yet to accomplish the feat in his career, he's now just a pair of goals from doing so for the 1st time. He has 25 goals in 61 games, and with 10 games left in Pittsburgh's schedule, his chances of reaching 30 goals are good.
Rust scored twice in Pittsburgh's 4-3 SO loss to the Florida Panthers on Sunday, and later spoke about the need to continue fighting despite the grim outlook in terms of their place in the standings.
I think it shows a lot about the character and leadership in this room, is that we're in here to keep fighting hard, keep playing really hard. It doesn't really matter where we are, kind of what's going on, I think we're in here to still prove something and still be a good hockey team.
That's obviously a good team that pushed really hard. We had a few breakdowns there, would have liked to come out a little tighter. For the most part, we played really hard. There are going to be mistakes, that's just the nature of the game. It's a lesson in how good teams win those games, when you're up by a goal, teams find a way to win those games.
