A proposed trade from analyst Jeremy Tingly of NHL Trade Rumors would send Pittsburgh Penguins forward Bryan Rust to the Red Wings in a proposed deal.
The Pittsburgh Penguins remain one of the most heavily talked about teams in the NHL when it comes to proposed trades.
Right now, GM Kyle Dubas has reportedly been trying to find a trade partner for forwards Bryan Rust and Rickard Rakell, along with defenseman Erik Karlsson, to get his team younger.
Per a new trade proposal from analyst Jeremy Tingly of NHL Trade Rumors, the Penguins could send Rust to the Detroit Red Wings in a deal that would work for both sides.
In the proposed deal, the Red Wings would send prospects Carter Mazur and Ondrej Becher as well as a 2nd round pick in the 2026 NHL Entry Draft to the Penguins for Rust.
Rust is a native of Pontiac, Michigan, and a lot of times when long-time vets get moved out for a rebuild, the team tries to do right by the player, which Dubas has done many times, and moving Rust 'back home' seems quite feasible.
It will hard to get a first-rounder for Rust, considering his age, but if the Penguins receive two solid prospects in Mazur and Becher, Dubas could settle for a second rounder. With three years left on his deal, this is far from a 'rental' situation for any team acquiring Rust.

Multiple Penguins analysts have stated they believe the goal of Penguins GM Kyle Dubas is to not only get his team younger, but to increase their chances of landing a top pick in the 2026 NHL Entry Draft.
The consensus expected 1st overall pick is phenom forward Gavin McKenna, who will be playing this year for the NCAA's Penn State Nittany Lions, about 2.5 hours away from Pittsburgh.
