On his 21st birthday, future Penguins star Rutger McGroarty reveals just how incredible it is to play alongside Sidney Crosby on a line as he looks to find his way at the NHL level in a full-time capacity.
Rutger McGroarty made his NHL debut earlier in the 2024/25 campaign, but now, it appears he is here to stay, with the now 21-year old being a crucial part of the Pittsburgh Penguins future.
Not only did the Penguins recall him after a terrific year in the AHL, but they've also placed him on the teams top line alongside veterans Sidney Crosby and
Bryan Rust, a place that any rookie would be lucky to find themselves.
Now, on his 21st birthday, McGroarty has made a statement about how good it is to play alongside Crosby, and how it's the best gift that he's ever been given or will ever be given by anyone.
"I love my parents and my sister and my girlfriend, but no present they've ever got me could live up to that."
Since McGroarty returned to the NHL, there's been plenty of hype around the former first-round draft pick, and in that time, there's been plenty of positive comments from Crosby, Rust and Mike Sullivan, with the entire organization seemingly believing that he'll be a difference maker at the top level.
Fortunately for the Penguins, there's no better learning experience for a rookie than to play alongside the greatest NHL player of this generation and a player that many believe is in the top-five in NHL history, and if McGroarty is as good as many believe, Crosby should be able to help mold him into a future star for the organization.
