Pittsburgh Penguins goaltender Sergei Murshov, who picked up his first NHL shutout over the Predators, talked about his record breaking performance in Sweden.
Pittsburgh Penguins rookie goalie Sergei Murashov is considered a candidate to be the Penguins goalie of the future, and he's already made some NHL history so far in his career.
He picked up his first NHL shutout and win today against the Nashville Predators as part of the NHL's Global Series, becoming just the third NHL goalie in NHL history to earn his first shutout outside of North America.
After the game, he downplayed the win by saying that it's his job to stop the puck and he's happy to have helped the team to a win.
That's my job. That's why I'm here. So, it's nice to be in game, engaged. Every challenge, you can be scared of that, or just jump in and just battle. So, I prefer second. And it was a really good feeling. - Sergei Murashov
The Penguins picked up their latest win of the year, adding to their already impressive start to the season in which not many fans and analysts would have predicted them to be in a playoff spot.
Sergei Murashov Is In His Rookie Year
Murashov was taken by the Penguins with the 118th overall pick in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft.
Today, he became just the third NHL goalie in history behind Tim Thomas and Annti Niemi to pick up their first NHL shutout outside of North America.
Both Thomas and Niemi would lead the Boston Bruins and Chicago Blackhawks to the Stanley Cup. Time will tell if Murashov is able to carve out the same kind of career path.
