Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin are Each One Point Away of Achieving Incredible Milestones
Both Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin have had Hall of Fame careers for the Penguins, and they're each a point away from a major milestone.
Currently, the
Penguins are 4 points behind the divisional foe
Columbus Blue Jackets; while they've not been mathematically eliminated from Stanley Cup Playoff contention, they have no choice but to win if they have any intention of avoiding a 3rd straight year outside of the playoffs.
Franchise icons and future Hall of Famers Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin happen to both be a single point away from some incredible personal milestones:
Crosby just one point away from clinching his 20th point-per-game season, which would surpass Wayne Gretzky (19) for the most in NHL history.
Malkin is one assist shy of tying Henrik Sedin for 13th-most assists with one franchise in NHL history.
The fact that Crosby is on the verge of surpassing Wayne Gretzky for a key point category is a testament not only to his longevity but also for his standing among the all-time greats in NHL history.
Meanwhile, Malkin has carved out his own Hall of Fame career with numerous personal accolades of his own.
Both players have also recently signed multi-year contracts to remain with the Penguins despite the fact they're no longer regular Stanley Cup contenders.
Tonight's game against the Sabres is of critical importance to the Penguins, and they need to take advantage of a team that won't be making the playoffs and is only playing for pride at this point.
