Sidney Crosby Shatters NHL Milestone No Player Has Reached in Two Decades

The Pittsburgh Penguins are playing their final game of the year before they break for the summer, hosting the divisional foe Washington Capitals at PPG Paints Arena.

And while there isn't anything left to play for aside from pride after having officially been eliminated from contention in the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs, the players are doing everything but mailing it in.

Penguins captain and future Hall of Famer Sidney Crosby continues to defy Father Time, picking up his 90th point of the year on a 1st period assist on a goal from teammate Bryan Rust.

The assist gave Crosby 90 points, making him just the 6th player in NHL history, and 1st in nearly 20 years, to record 90-plus points in their age 37 season. He joined select NHL company in doing so, as he's now with Gordie Howe, Joe Sakic, Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux and Johnny Buyck.

As if that weren't enough, Crosby followed that up in the 2nd period with his 91st point, surpassing Wayne Gretzky's 90 points at the same age (37) on his 33rd goal of the year, as he one-timed a feed from rookie forward Phil Tomasino past goaltender Clay Stevenson:

Despite the thought that he could entertain departing the rebuilding Penguins, Crosby reiterated his commitment to the only organization that he's ever played for by inking a 2-year extension with his customary AAV (average annual value) of $8.7 million to keep him with the club through 2027.
