Sidney Crosby's Words on Missing the Playoffs Leave Penguins Fans Heartbroken

Sidney Crosby and his teammates have officially been eliminated from playoff contention this year.

This marks the third straight season the team has missed the postseason and they have not won a round since 2018.

The team continues to trend in the wrong direction as they will end the season closer to winning the draft lottery than being above the playoff line.

Understandably, Penguins fans are upset about this, but perhaps no one is more upset than Sidney Crosby himself.

(Crosby recently went on the Pat McAfee show) where he scored a major prize for himself in addition to discussing his future in the NHL.

After Crosby lamented the fact that the Penguins would not be in the playoffs this year, McAfee responded with encouragement, saying the team will be back soon, to which Crosby responded, "Yeah, exactly."

Perhaps it was not the most enthusiastic response from the captain fans were hoping for, but can we really blame them?

The Penguins are the oldest team in the NHL, they continue to trend downwards, and their prospect pool is mediocre at best.

Truthfully, it will be some time before the Penguins can reestablish themselves as a true contender.

General manager Kyle Dubas can make all the claims he wants and try all the moves he can, but the odds of this team getting back into the playoffs next year are simply slim to none.

In fact, with just two seasons left on his contract after this one, the odds that Sidney Cosby sees the playoffs again are rather slim indeed.

That is certainly a tough pill for Penguins fans to swallow, but at least they have three Stanley Cup championships to look back on fondly.
