A new report from NHL analyst Greg Wyshynski of ESPN is shedding more light on the future of Pittsburgh Penguins captain and icon Sidney Crosby's future with the franchise.
The Pittsburgh Penguins have missed the Stanley Cup Playoffs in each of the last 3 seasons, marking the longest drought of team captain and franchise icon Sidney Crosby's NHL career.
It's also the longest drought of longtime Crosby teammate and fellow future Hall of Fame forward
Evgeni Malkin's career, which could very well be coming to a close after this upcoming season.
Malkin has only 1 year left on his contract, and the prevailing thought is that
he may call it a career after 2025-26.
As for Crosby, he re-signed with the club on a 2 year contract with his customary AAV (average annual value) of $8.7 million, a clear nod to his sweater No. 87.
What are the odds that Crosby finishes his NHL career anywhere but Pittsburgh? Per ESPN's Greg Wyshynski, there's a chance.
Appearing on 'The Sheet' with Jeff Marek, Wyshynski said he thinks that Crosby will end his playing career as a member of the Montreal Canadiens, his boyhood team.
I've long believed that Sidney Crosby will end his career in Montreal.
If he's gonna go anywhere and he's gonna try to do something spectacular, being part of the legacy & lineage of the Montreal Canadiens. Being part of a team that's got upward trajectory and have a good chance, maybe (win) a late career championship with a team that hasn't won since 1993. A team he clearly has a lot of affinity for. I always assumed if it wasn't Pittsburgh, it would be Montreal.
Penguins fans, just how big of a jolt would it be to see Crosby in the sweater of the Canadiens?
