Top Scout Shares Disappointing Analysis on Penguins' Prospect Pool
A top NHL scout has bad news for fans of the Pittsburgh Penguins, saying he thinks that the team is middle of the road overall when it comes to their prospect pool.
Times aren't exactly the greatest right now for the Pittsburgh Penguins, who have missed the Stanley Cup Playoffs in each of the last 3 years, the longest droughts of franchise icons Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin's NHL careers.
What does the future hold for the team in terms of their prospect pool? If this latest ranking is any indication, Penguins fans could be in for lots more waiting.
NHL prospect analyst Byron Bader ranked the Penguins' prospect pool smack dab in the middle of the pack at No. 17 overall out of the 32 clubs, and also mentioned that the Penguins have a chance to start picking higher in the Draft in upcoming years.
The Penguins pool is finally climbing out of the basement and adding some decent depth to it. Having 3 1st round picks in 2025 helped to reshape it. Really liked the Kindel pick in particular.
Seems to be the Penguins are going to become terrible and start to pick high right as some generational draftees become available. Every 20 years the Penguins are good to cash in on a few elite/generational game changers that completely change the franchise. They'll probably do it again!

The Penguins recently wrapped up Development Camp in Pittsburgh, which featured several of their young prospects, including 2025 NHL Entry Draft selection Will Horcoff.
Pittsbrugh has already undergone a major change in leadership after the season ended, replacing coach Mike Sullivan with Dan Muse and hiring former Penguins Stanley Cup winning forward Nick Bonino to join his staff.
