Ville Koivunen made his long awaited NHL debut on Friday after a fantastic AHL campaign, and now his parents have reacted to the incredible milestone.
The Pittsburgh Penguins saw Ville Koivunen thrive at the AHL level this season, tallying an impressive 21 goals and 55 points in 62 games at the age of 21, showing that he could be a genuine star for the future of the Pittsburgh Penguins.
On Friday, he was rewarded with his NHL debut, and while he didn't tally a point in the Penguins 1-0 overtime victory, he played well enough to show plenty of promise for the future.
After the game, Koivunen's parents were interviewed, and unsurprisingly, they were incredibly emotional about the entire situation, noting how overwhelming but joyful it was watching their son make his NHL debut.
«It's overwhelming. It's overwhelming, completely. It's stressful. But at the same time, there's so much joy. It's a big dream come true.»
They also made a very intriguing comment that when Ville was growing up, there were many
Sidney Crosby jerseys worn in the yard as he was playing with his friends, with the now teammate of 87 noting that his dream line was always Crosby, Malkin and him.
"When they were young, the boys would play in the Koivunens' yard, and there were so many Sidney Crosby jerseys. We asked the boys on our team, what is your dream line?»
Ville's answer: «Crosby, Malkin and me.»
That shows just how perfect of a situation this is for the young forward, and after earning his spot through elite level play in the AHL, he now gets to learn from his hero, and if he can do so well, he could be a huge piece of the future for the organization.
