Young 60-Point Scorer Remains Possibility for Penguins on the Trade Market
The situation between the Wild and Marco Rossi remains at a standstill, and Frank Seravalli believes a trade is still possible, and the Penguins should inquire.
The Wild and Marco Rossi Could be as Much as $2 Million Apart in AAV
Marco Rossi supposedly is targeting a long-term extension within the $6-7 million AAV range. The Wild are closer to the $5 million range, and each is presently at a standstill. The standoff can continue all summer.
Analytical group AFP places Rossi at as much as $7.4 million per year on a 7-year contract, but it's too expensive for Minnesota's present situation. A more realistic stopgap contract would be more in the range of two years at $4.5 million per year.
Rossi is coming out of a breakout campaign with 24 goals and 60 points, 20 better than his 40 in the previous season. The 23-year-old is the 2020 draft's ninth overall pick. Rossi's contract is the last item on the off-season checklist of GM Bill Guerin.
Re Marco Rossi: "It's very unlikely at this point, but I still wouldn't totally close the door on the idea of a potential trade; there's been lots of teams...looking for top six forward help."
- Frank Seravalli
But he hasn't quite closed the door yet on trade, with plenty of teams, like the Pittsburgh Penguins, still in need of depth in the top six.
As it is now, it's far from being done, as each side is digging in with training camps forthcoming.
