Sean Avery claims he could make the Leafs roster, takes a shot at new Leaf Ryan Reaves

Sean Avery has always been a great talker. His unrivaled abilities as a mouthpiece likely even kept him in the NHL long after he could no longer play the game at that level.

The now 43-year-old last played in the NHL during the 2011-12 season with the New York Rangers. He also spent time in Detroit, Los Angeles and Dallas. During a recent appearance on Leafs Morning Take, he even thinks that with 8 weeks of training, he could step in and take Ryan Reaves' roster spot in Toronto.

"I could make the Leafs. I'm probably in the best shape of my life... I would give that dressing room a run for their money. Could I get my timing in 5 weeks to be ready for training camp? No, but if they knew that I was on the team and it was like 'ok, he needs 8 weeks', then I would be ready and I would be much more effective than Ryan Reaves."

Avery's antics during his playing time were well-documented. He thrived by trying to get under the skin of the opposition and was successful in doing so most nights. Having said that, look.. There's a reason we don't see many guys over 40 playing in the league. It's a younger man's game now. The strength and conditioning is just on a different level. Still, you have to sit back and laugh at Avery jabbing at the Leafs and Ryan Reaves like that. He's always been a character.
