Former Stanley Cup Champ Turned Analyst Blasts Nylander and the Maple Leafs
William Nylander was fantastic again in the regular season, but after struggling early in this series against Ottawa, he's been called out by a former NHLer.
The Toronto Maple Leafs raced out to a 3-0 lead in their series against the Ottawa Senators, but ever since their top stars have gone missing as their Ontario rival has now fought to take the series to six games.
Whether or not the Maple Leafs can find their way out of this disaster, only time will tell, but regardless, their Core Four is once again under immense pressure, with many calling out the struggles of
Auston Matthews in recent post-season appearances.
Now, former NHLer turned analyst Mike Rupp has aimed his criticism elsewhere, calling out William Nylander, who famously goes by 'Willy Styles' in Toronto for those fans that adore the young winger.
According to Rupp, it's that type of attitude that has doomed Nylander thus far, as he believes No. 88 is too focused on being cool rather than winning a Stanley Cup, and it could cost them dearly.
"Until winning the Stanley Cup is cooler than being cool, William Nylander's not gonna figure it out, and they're not gonna figure it out."
This comes after a Game 5 performance that drew him plenty of criticism, with Rupp himself noting that Nylander refuses to get dirty and get physical, something that brings plenty of success at this time of the year.
Ultimately, this would be an easy point of criticism for Nylander to overcome, as all he has to do is step up, play a physical game and help lead his team to a huge win, but until that time comes, expect the criticism to grow louder.
