Alex Steeves was a promising player coming into Toronto Maple Leafs training camp and he was someone that the fans were looking forward to.
However, Steeves got the short end of the stick as he was not selected to be with the team to start the regular season. Instead, he was sent back down to the Toronto Marlies. This is not necessarily a bad thing as the Marlies are a very good team that will help Steeves develop as a player.
In fact, Steeves was motivated after being cut by the Toronto Maple Leafs. In his first game with the Marlies this season, Steeves went out and got a hat trick against the Belleville Senators. You can see a clip from the game down below.
If you are a Maple Leafs fan, you absolutely love to see this kind of stuff. Steeves is a player who could have a bright future. At 24 years old, he still has time to develop and eventually make the roster. While he might be disappointed right now, injuries can happen throughout the season. This could subsequently lead to some big opportunities.
Of course, this is a big upcoming season for the Maple Leafs. They currently boast a roster that many believe is capable of winning a Stanley Cup. With that in mind, it should come as no surprise that even talented players like Steeves are struggling to make the roster right now.
