The Dallas Stars defeated the Vegas Golden Knights in the opening round, ending the team's season. For a squad that added Tomas Hertl, Anthony Mantha, and Noah Hanifin just before the trade deadline, it was a dismal end.
Kelly McCrimmon, general manager, has a lot of work ahead of her this summer to make sure the Golden Knights don't suffer the same fate the following season. As the summer approaches, Vegas will have a large number of free agents, the most significant of them is Jonathan Marchessault. Having been chosen by the Golden Knights in the 2017 Expansion Draft, Marchessault has been a part of the team since its founding. However, is it possible that Vegas is moving on from the 33-year-old?
In an interview with the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Marchessault says that he hasn't received a call from the Golden Knights, despite them saying to him they're interested in re-signing him.
Marchessault continued by saying that he visited the Golden Knights in the summer of last year, when he was qualified to sign a contract extension, and requested that it be completed at that time, but the team was not yet prepared to make that move.
Seeing what the Vegas Golden Knights decide to do with Jonathan Marchessault will be interesting. There will be a lot of interest in him if he is not re-signed and goes unsigned on July 1st, especially since he just finished the regular season with the best goal total of his career (42 goals).
