The Hershey Bears, the Washington Capitals AHL affiliate, made history during their annual Teddy Bear Toss against the Lehigh Valley Phantoms on Sunday.
Bears forward Bogdan Trineyev ignited the crowd of over 10,000 at Giant Arena by scoring the opening goal just over four minutes into the second period, prompting a flurry of stuffed animals to rain down onto the ice.
Following the adorable cleanup, the Hershey Bears secured a thrilling 3-2 overtime victory against their state rivals, Lehigh Valley.
After the game, the Hershey Bears proudly declared a new franchise and world record for the number of stuffed animals tossed onto the ice: 74,599.
Stories like these bring joy, especially knowing that all those stuffed animals will find their way to kids and others in need in Hershey, Pennsylvania, and the surrounding areas.
