Capitals defenseman Martin Fehervary's injury setback has caused him to be over a month behind in his routine summer training.
All NHL teams are now less than a month away from the start of training camp and the exhibition schedule, but Washington Capitals defenseman Martin Fehervary continues to experience inflammation stemming from an injury he suffered back in February.
Feheravary appeared at the Slovak Hockey Player of the Year 2025 gala at Bratislava Castle, he said
he's not been able to skate several weeks, but that he also doesn't want to rush back to the ice and risk a further setback.
I would like to be better and to know when (I'll be skating again), but I know I will get there. I don't want to rush anything. I want to be sensible and patient about the knee. When everything is then in good standing with the knee, I will start back on the ice.
He also said that he feels he should have begun his routine summer training at least a month ago but hopes that he won't have to miss the start of the 2025/26 season .
I don't believe so, but I should have been training on the ice for a month already. But you never really know. I certainly hope that there is no problem. But I will know when I get there.
Taken with the 46th pick in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft by the Capitals, Fehervary had 25 points (5G, 20A) in 81 games this year as the Capitals
won the top spot in the Metropolitan Division.
The Capitals won the top spot in the Metropolitan Division
The Capitals earned the final Wild Card playoff spot in the Eastern Conference in 2023-24, beating out the Philadelphia Flyers and Detroit Red Wings for the last spot on the final day of the year; they were quickly swept in the ECQF by the New York Rangers.
But some summer retooling in 2024 resulted in 51 wins, their most since winning 55 games in 2016-17 as well as their 1st divisional title since 2020.
