Connor Bedard is believed to be the future of the Blackhawks, but according to Frank Seravalli, neither he or the team are rushing to get a big time extension done.
While Connor Bedard has thrived since arriving in the NHL, he hasn't been the absolute superstar that some were hoping for, and now, the 20-year old is set to enter his third season as the face of the Chicago Blackhawks.
Through two campaigns, Bedard has tallied 45 goals and 128 points in 150 games played, but given that he's not yet signed an extension with the team, it's got many around the league wondering what is happening.
Bedard, Blackhawks set to go into 2025/26 without a new deal
That was a topic that insider Frank Seravalli recently addressed on
NHL Insider Notebook, where he would drop a major piece of news about potential contract negotiations between the two parties.
According to Seravalli, despite Bedard becoming eligible for an extension on July 1st, neither party is in a rush to get a deal done, and if it doesn't happen before the regular season begins, they're comfortable seeing how his third season plays out before handing him a long-term deal.
Even without elite talent around him, Bedard has managed quite impressive production at the NHL level, and given the young core the Blackhawks are starting to build, they're not going to led their future captain walk into free agency without a long-term deal.
Whether that happens during the season or after year three at the NHL level, all signs are pointing to Bedard staying in Chicago for a long, long time to come, and if he can take a leap forward next season, it's only going to benefit him when it comes to negotiations.
