Former Pittsburgh Penguins winger Toby Petersen has landed a new job as head coach of the Texas Stars in the AHL, which was announced by the team.

The Dallas Stars announced that Toby Petersen has been hired as the head coach of their AHL affiliate, the Texas Stars. Toby Petersen takes over for Neil Graham, who was recently hired by the NHL club as an assistant coach on Glen Gulutzan's staff.
Toby Petersen comes with a deep level of experience as a coach and former NHL forward. Most recently, he was a skills coach for two seasons (2023-25) with the Colorado Avalanche, where he worked with both the NHL and AHL players.
He also served as an AHL assistant coach for six seasons (2014-20) with Springfield, Lake Erie/Cleveland, and Rochester. Specifically, he helped lead Lake Erie to a 15-2 playoff record on the way to the 2016 Calder Cup.
A Stars organization familiar face, Petersen spent seven years playing between Dallas and Texas, acting as an alternate captain and capturing the 2014 Calder Cup with the Texas Stars.

Peterson was drafted by the Pittsburgh Penguins in 1998

Selected by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 1998 NHL Draft (244th overall), Petersen spent portions of nine NHL seasons with Pittsburgh, Edmonton, and Dallas, recording 81 points in 398 regular-season games, and added 18 Stanley Cup Playoff games.
Petersen had 374 points in 550 AHL games and reached three Calder Cup Finals as a player, including two with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Pittsburgh's AHL affiliate.
A native of Minnesota, Petersen competed in college hockey at Colorado College and skated for Team USA in several international competitions, including the 1997 and 1998 World Junior Championships and the 2007 IIHF World Championship.
