NHL star forwards Sidney Crosby of the Pittsburgh Penguins and Nathan MacKinnon of the Colorado Avalanche have been good friends with one another for years now, and there has even been speculation that the pair could eventually join forces with one another on the same club.
While that still has yet to materialize, the two have often been teammates for Canada during international play, most recently during the IIHF World Championships and, earlier in the year, the 4 Nations Faceoff.
As far as him ever potentially leaving the Penguins, that's an unlikely scenario, according to his agent Pat Brisson.
Crosby recently signed a 2 year extension with his customary AAV (average annual value) of $8.7 million, a clear nod to his sweater No. 87.
Per Brisson, his client is "comfortable" in Pittsburgh and isn't likely to change, and that he's also very comfortable with taking a massive discount compared to what he could be making elsewhere.
It was very important. He had many options this summer to maybe go elsewhere, though he wasn't a free agent yet. He wanted to continue to be consistent in his approach. He feels comfortable with the organization.
87 I guess is a little bit superstitious, it's hard for him to hide it, it follows him everywhere. Although we'll try again to get him to take a little bit more money, that's where he wanted to be and he's really happy with it.
