Henrik Lundqvist Shows Incredible Respect to Marc-Andre Fleury in New Clip
Former New York Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist clearly has a tremendous amount of respect for Marc-Andre Fleury, who recently retired from the NHL.
Former New York Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist is known as one of the best goalies to have ever played in the National Hockey League, but didn't get his name on the Stanley Cup.
That wasn't the case with Marc-Andre Fleury, who has his name engraved on the famed trophy three times, all during his tenure with the Pittsburgh Penguins. Fleury had a chance for a fourth in his inaugural year with the expansion Vegas Golden Knights, but they fell short.
Lundqvist, who retired from the NHL in 2021 after revealing a heart condition, was recently extremely complimentary of Fleury while interviewing in Sweden.
Lundqvist was read a list of goaltenders and was asked jokingly not to say anything until he heard a name that he felt had a better career than himself.
After several names were read, Lundqvist stopped when Fleury's name was mentioned.
I have to say something, now it's gone too far!
Fleury announced that last year was going to be his final one in the NHL, playing the backup role to
Filip Gustavsson with the Minnesota Wild.
Fleury left the game ranked No. 2 all-time in goalie wins (575) behind only his childhood idol, Martin Brodeur.
Lundqvist, who played his entire career for the Rangers (he signed with the Washington Capitals but was unable to suit up because of his heart issue) and had 459 career wins.
Both Fleury and Lundqvist battled one another in the postseason multiple times, including in 2008, 2013, and 2014.
