Sidney Crosby leaving the Winter Olympics would flip Team Canada, and the Milano Cortina 2026 pressure is real.

Canada has not officially ruled him out, but the limp and the missed practice told the story.
If Thursday’s imaging says “no,” Canada still has enough firepower to win gold. It just has to stop trying to replace Crosby, and start redistributing his jobs.
He has already carved his name deeper into this event, hitting a new Canadian points mark at a Winter Olympics with NHLers.
He also left the quarterfinal late, and Canada had to grind out a 3-2 overtime win without him.
Now the semifinal is the next checkpoint on Friday, and there is no gentle matchup waiting.
I would keep Connor McDavid in the middle, but give him Macklin Celebrini on his left for pace and Tom Wilson on his right for chaos. McDavid gets a straight line to the net, Wilson drags defenders with him.
Brandon Hagel with Nathan MacKinnon feels like a track meet, and Nick Suzuki is the glue. Suzuki can hang low, win touches, and let the other two fly.
Mitch Marner with Sam Bennett and Mark Stone is my “steal your puck” unit. Marner creates, Bennett hammers the slot, Stone closes the door on exits.
Seth Jarvis with Bo Horvat and Sam Reinhart is the grown-up line that wins shifts. It is heavy on retrievals and quick releases around the crease.

Sidney Crosby absence tests Team Canada nerve

Canadian fans would be sick about it, but also weirdly confident, because this is the deepest forward group the program has iced in years.
The key is special teams reps. Someone has to run the half wall with Crosby gone, and Marner is the cleanest fit.
You also need a captain vibe. Jon Cooper has leaned on Crosby’s leadership all tournament, and that voice does not duplicate easily.
If Canada plays north, wins the middle, and keeps MacKinnon and McDavid separated, it can survive the gut punch. The gold medal path is still there.
