The announcer for the American Hockey League All-Star classic made a blunder when announcing the name of Pittsburgh Penguins prospect Sergei Murashov, accidentally calling him a defenseman.
Thanks to his strong year, Pittsburgh Penguins goaltending prospect Sergei Murashov was named to the American Hockey League All-Star Classic.
But there was one particular blunder that has since gone viral on social media. As the players were being introduced, the public address announcer accidentally said that Murashov was a defenseman, not a goaltender.
Regardless of the blunder, Murashov played it cool and waved to the crowd with a big smile, seemingly unfazed.
Murashov, who has already played in the NHL this year after he was briefly called up to the Penguins from the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, has been spectacular in the AHL.
He's 18-5 with a .924 SV%, and is thought of by many to eventually be the goalie of the future in Pittsburgh.
He's not the only member of the Penguins organization taking part, as head coach Wilkes-Barre/Scranton coach Kirk MacDonald will coach the Atlantic Division, while forward Tristan Broz was also chosen to take part.
Penguins Prospect Sergei Murashov Has Already Played In The NHL This Year
The Penguins took Murashov with the 118th overall pick in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft, but he would continue his career with the KHL's Lokomotiv Yaroslavl before coming over to North America.
He began his career in the Penguins organization in the AHL, and later was called up to the Penguins this year; he played in five games, and went 1-1-2 with a .897 SV%.
He's also played for the Wheeling Nailers of the ECHL.
