Per NHL Rumour Report, the Montreal Canadiens are the team that makes the most sense for Sidney Crosby to go to if he leaves the Pittsburgh Penguins.

The future of Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby remains up in the air, as the Penguins aren't going to be competing for the Stanley Cup any time soon despite Crosby's continuing to play at an elite level.
Crosby would love to win the Stanley Cup one more time before he retires, and at 38, he doesn't have that many playing years left.
Per NHL Rumour Report, the Canadiens are the team that makes the most sense for Crosby to head to if he were to request a trade so that he could have the best chance at winning before he retires.
If Sidney Crosby does get traded, Montreal makes the most sense to me. A move to Denver across the continent doesn't seem likely even if his friend MacKinnon is there. Montreal is close to home for him; it's less travel. It's the team he grew up cheering for. His dad was drafted by the Canadiens. I know his family would be excited by it. And it's also a good hockey fit. The Canadiens desperately need another center and have lots of assets to go get Sid. You can just tell he's itching for a new opportunity, the question is the timing. I'm not certain this happens this year with Malkin playing out his last year in Pittsburgh.

This is expected to be Evgeni Malkin's last year in the NHL

Whenever Crosby does leave the Penguins, be it through retirement or through a trade at some point, it will be truly the end of an era for the franchise.
Speaking of eras, Evgeni Malkin was a major part of it, helping to win 3 Stanley Cups alongside Sidney Crosby and taking home the Conn Smythe Trophy in 2009 as postseason MVP.
2025-26 is expected to be Malkin's last year in the NHL, which also brings about the end of an era for the Penguins.
