The official 1st press conference for new Pittsburgh Penguins head coach Dan Muse will be held on Wednesday, the team announced.
The Pittsburgh Penguins have officially hired former New York Rangers assistant coach Dan Muse as the successor to Mike Sullivan, who was let go after nearly 10 years on the job.
Sullivan, who was hired in December 2015 as the replacement for the terminated Mike Johnston, led the Penguins to consecutive Stanley Cup wins and kept them in contention for the next several years.
But a change was deemed necessary by GM Kyle Dubas after the Penguins missed the playoffs for the last 3 years running, the longest drought of captain and future Hall of Famer Sidney Crosby's career.
It has since been announced that Muse's 1st official press conference since being named head coach of the Penguins will take place on Wednesday, with Dubas also slated to speak to reporters.
The hiring of Muse has been met with former Penguins Stanley Cup-winning forward Nick Bonino's approval; Bonino played under Muse when he was an assistant coach with both the New York Rangers and the Nashville Predators.
He's just a good person. I think that's always the most important thing. Like, you can tell he cares about you. He's a great family man. In New York, we had our kids at the same hockey program, and we're talking about the PK and just talking about life. So, he's always there. I think it probably starts with that.
Muse now oversees a group comprised of young and veteran talent and will be tasked with getting them back to the postseason.
