A pair of now-former assistant coaches with the Pittsburgh Penguins, Ty Hennes and David Quinn, are going to New York to join Mike Sullivan with the Rangers.
The Pittsburgh Penguins have already made a major change in leadership, removing head coach Mike Sullivan after nearly 10 years on the job and eventually replacing him with former New York Rangers assistant coach David Muse.
Speaking of the Rangers, Sullivan is now officially their bench boss as he was hired shortly after New York fired Peter Laviolette; they missed the postseason after winning the President's Trophy last year and advancing to the ECF.
And now, a pair of former Penguins assistant coaches are joining Sullivan on the Rangers' staff. Both Ty Hennes and David Quinn, the latter of which was once New York's head coach for a time, have been added to
Sullivan's staff in New York.
And that's not all. Former Boston Bruins interim head coach Joe Sacco is also joining Sullivan's staff in New York.
It's a second chance with the Rangers for both Sullivan and Quinn. Sullivan served as an assistant coach under John Tortorella with the Rangers from 2009 to 2013, while Quinn was New York's head coach from 2018 to 2021, amassing a record of 96-87-25.
The San Jose Sharks soon hired Quinn as their head coach; he would go 41-98-25 before being let go in the midst of 2023-24.
Meanwhile, Sacco joins Sullivan in New York after having spent the last 12 years working with the Bruins, first as an assistant and then as their interim head coach following the dismissal of Jim Montgomery in November of last year.
