Former St. Louis Blues forward Robby Fabbri, who was cut by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the preseason after playing last year with the Anaheim Ducks, could be on the verge of an NHL return with a new team.

Just when it looked like former St. Louis Blues forward Robby Fabbri may have been finished in the National Hockey League, he could soon be getting another chance.
Fabbri was unable to earn a roster spot after playing several preseason games with the Pittsburgh Penguins, who invited him to training camp on a professional tryout agreement, earlier this year. He was one of the last players cut from the team, and he's not been able to find work in the NHL elsewhere.
But per a new report from NHL analyst Elliotte Friedman in his recent '32 Thoughts' written blog, Fabbri is allegedly closing in on a new contract.
Heard this week there's going to be a landing spot for Robby Fabbri. One of the rumoured teams was Ottawa, but it won't be them. - Elliotte Friedman
Fabbri played last year with the Anaheim Ducks and his season was once again cut far short because of injuries.

Robby Fabbri's Career Has Been Filled With Numerous Lower-Body Injuries

Fabbri was taken by the St. Louis Blues with the 21st overall pick in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft, and he would play the first several years of his NHL career with the Blues franchise.
He was also a part of their 2019 Stanley Cup winning team, as he had a goal in 10 postseason games.
But the following season, he was traded to the Detroit Red Wings for Jacob de la Rose. He would play the next handful of years in a Red Wings sweater, but like in St. Louis, he experienced numerous lower-body injuries.
Fabbri was then traded to the Anaheim Ducks in the summer of 2024, and he had 16 points (8G, 8A) in 44 games before his year was once again cut short, this time for meniscus surgery.
During his career, Fabbri has also suffered three separate torn ACL injuries, twice with the Blues and one with the Red Wings, which has caused him to miss significant time.
In 442 career NHL games with the Blues, Red Wings and Ducks, Fabbri has 216 points (106G, 110A).
He likely won't cost that much in terms of a new contract, as he'd likely have to play for close to the NHL minimum salary. Teams would be naturally weary of signing him purely because of his injury history, though he's proven to be a solid depth piece when healthy.
