Soon-to-be retired former Penguins goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury is opening up about his relationship with some of his beloved former teammates in a new interview.
Former Stanley Cup-winning goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury is set to call it a career after this year comes to a close; he and the Minnesota Wild are deadlocked at 1-1 in their Round series.
Relegated to the role of backup and mentor to young Wild starting goalie Filip Gustavsson, Fleury has a wealth of knowledge and experience he's able to pass to him before he hangs up his pads.
He'll especially remember all those years playing video games with Crosby while traveling on the team charter.
We sat next to each other on the plane for all these years and played video games, usually SOCOM. Remember those old PSPs? We could link up, four against four or something like that. That was our game for, I don't know how many years. We could talk about life, about hockey, anything that's going on. I really appreciate that. I think our friendship grew in that time.
When discussing Malkin, Fleury said he'll most remember his humor.
He's such a funny guy. He always has those one-liners with his broken English. I don't know, probably better not to talk about it, but we've had a good time, having drinks and stuff at the baralways good laughs with him, for sure. I feel like we hung out a bunch, but there's nothing [specific] really that comes to my mind. [It's all] a little crazy.
Fleury ends his career with 575 career wins, 2nd all-time on the NHL goaltending win list behind only Martin Brodeur.
