Following his dismissal from the Pittsburgh Penguins, coach Mike Sullivan is already being linked to the Atlantic Division's Boston Bruins among other clubs.
The Pittsburgh Penguins announced a major change in leadership yesterday morning with the dismissal of now-former head coach Mike Sullivan; he had been one of the longest-tenured head coaches in the NHL.
It likely won't be long before Sullivan lands new employment, as there are a handful of other NHL clubs looking for a new bench boss.
Per Jimmy Murphy, the Bruins are expected to show "major" interest in Sullivan, according to a source that he's spoken with.
They've already reached out on [Sullivan], but as you might expect, he needs to decompress a bit. I was told, though, he has immediately moved straight to the top of their list and they (Bruins) would love to start talking with him ASAP! If he's ready, I would think they're talking to each other by Wednesday. Friday at the latest.
The source also indicated that Sullivan could very well become the NHL's highest-paid coach, and the Bruins would need to move quickly if they want to secure his services.
He's not just at the top of their list now; he's the most coveted coach out there, and he's likely about to become the highest-paid coach in the NHL. You know the Rangers are in on him and they'll have no issues backing up the Brinks truck for him, so if the Bruins really want him, they know they need to act fast.
The Bruins fired coach Jim Montgomery after a slow start to the year and replaced him with assistant Joe Sacco on an interim basis; the club missed the playoffs for the 1st time since 2015-16.
