Dan Muse isn't well known around the NHL, and now Caleb Jones has opened many eyes with his recent comments on the new Pittsburgh Penguins Head Coach.
The Pittsburgh Penguins made the surprise move to hire Dan Muse as their
new Head Coach this off-season, with very few fans aware that he was even a possibility until the hiring was made official.
Now, he's reportedly fitting in well and becoming a good leader in Pittsburgh, but until we see what the team looks like when they take the ice for the 2025/26 campaign, one that is expected to lack good results, we won't exactly know what he's like behind the bench.
Caleb Jones gives praise to the Penguins rookie Head Coach
One player that has a unique perspective on Muse is new defenseman Caleb Jones, who comes in looking to find a spot on this Penguins team, with several spots on the blue line currently wide open.
In
an interview with Dan Potash, Jones opens up on talking to Muse on the phone, noting how smart he is when it comes to hockey and how much a fresh set of eyes could really benefit the Penguins organization.
I didn't know much about Dan before, but he seems like a really smart guy, we had a 45 minute conversation and he took me through what they were thinking with systems and how we're gonna play different things. He seems like a really smart guy and knows what he's talking about when it comes to hockey as he's been around on a couple different teams as an assistant.
I think anytime you have a whole new staff like that coming in, even for the guys that have been there, it's always nice to have a fresh set of eyes and a new opportunity for everyone to show what you can do to impress him. That's my plan going in there, just let my play on the ice do the talking.
In the interview, Jones opens up on arriving in Pittsburgh and looking to find his role, and while he's yet to see Muse work, from a conversation on the phone he is definitely very complimentary of Muse.
Ultimately, we won't know much about Muse until the end of his second season in Pittsburgh, but as of right now the reviews have been glowing, and if that remains the case when the Penguins bring all their veterans in for training camp, it may turn out to be a fantastic hire for the organization.
