Penguins general manager Kyle Dubas could reportedly be considering a trade with the Utah Mammoth amidst reports that multiple players could soon leave Pittsburgh.
While the Pittsburgh Penguins have already made a major change in leadership behind the bench by replacing Mike Sullivan with former New York Rangers assistant Dan Muse, more changes could be coming on the ice.
The Penguins have not made the postseason for the last 3 years, marking the longest drought of captain and future Hall of Famer Sidney Crosby's NHL career.
Multiple players on the Penguins roster have been rumored to potentially soon be on the move, including veterans Bryan Rust and Rickard Rakell.
And now, a potential trading partner has been revealed by Josh Yohe of The Athletic - the Utah Mammoth.
Yohe writes that Dubas intends to make good on his summer plan to make additions via trade rather than aggressive free agency signings, and a deal could be forthcoming in the coming weeks.
Dubas isn't looking to acquire draft picks or prospects. Instead, he's interested in bringing in young NHL players who, for whatever reason, aren't long for their current teams. Teams looking to be aggressive or those dealing with salary cap problems are most likely to be in conversations with Dubas.
Keep the Utah Mammoth in mind as a team that might do business with Dubas.
He then reiterated that Rust is "wildly available".
How many players will score 25 or more goals a season while being outstanding penalty killers and excellent leaders and showing up bigger than the rest in the biggest of games? Rust is wildly valuable.
NHL Free Agency also opens up on July 1, while the Penguins will also pick 11th and 12th in the upcoming 2025 NHL Entry Draft.
