TSN analyst Travis Yost is delivering some harsh reality to fans of the Pittsburgh Penguins over the state of their current goaltending and how it may affect them in 2025-26.

It's a period of transition for the Pittsburgh Penguins, who have now missed the playoffs in each of the last 3 years, representing the longest drought in the NHL careers of Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin.
The Penguins aren't expected to come close to competing for a postseason spot this year, and they've been looking for trade partners for players like Bryan Rust and Rickard Rakell along with defenseman Erik Karlsson.
They've already made one notable trade in the summer, sending goaltender Alex Nedeljkovic to the San Jose Sharks. This means that Tristan Jarry, who had been waived last year and sent to the AHL, is now once again the de facto starter in net.
But per TSN analyst Travis Yost, Jarry and Joel Blomqvist are in the last tier of goaltending among all 32 clubs.

Tristan Jarry's been so inconsistent that Kyle Dubas made an aggressive move to acquire Arturs Silovs from Vancouver - a goalie who has looked fantastic at every competitive level except for the NHL (88.0 per cent stop rate in 19-games). At 24 years old you're more than willing to bet on upside and development here, but if Silovs is more of what we have seen in a very limited sense with Vancouver, the Penguins do not have a comfortable situation in net.

Sergei Murashov will also try and make a good impression on the Penguins in training camp, but it's not much consolation.

The Penguins waived Tristan Jarry last year

After a very inconsistent start, the Penguins placed Jarry on waivers; after nobody claimed him, he was sent to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.
He eventually came back to the Penguins and briefly played better before falling back into inconsistency.
The Penguins aren't expected to be a playoff team this year, and their goaltending is a major reason why.

Should the Penguins have kept Alex Nedeljkovic over Tristan Jarry?
