Jared McCann has been a star since arriving in Seattle, but despite recent reports, the former Penguin isn't available for trade according to a top Kraken reporter.
This off-season has been rather quiet around the NHL, but that hasn't stopped the constant trade speculation, with recent reports stating that Jared McCann is now a name to look out for on the trade market.
Despite his individual production, the Kraken have struggled for a few years since making their first Stanley Cup Playoffs appearance, and given that McCann is approaching 30, it was a report that made sense.
Teams getting shut down when inquiring about the star forward
However,
Seattle Hockey Insider Rob Simpson has now revealed the truth around the McCann situation, noting that the New Jersey Devils were one of several teams that were told McCann was not available via trade.
Even if the Kraken struggle early in 2025/26 as many expect them to do given the competition in the Western Conference, Simpson reports that it will take a kings ransom to pry McCann out of Seattle, and given that there's likely to be players available for much cheaper, it doesn't make sense for contending teams to overpay for McCann.
On top of that, the Ontario native is already an icon in the history of the Kraken, tallying 118 goals in four seasons with the team, and given that he's still relatively young at 29, he's clearly a player that they want to build around for years to come.
Ultimately, this may change if teams start to offer significant packages for the former first-round pick, but until that point, the Kraken have taken a firm stance on McCann, and it doesn't appear that their minds will be changed before the 2025/26 season begins.
