Mitch Marner is one of the best players in the National Hockey League and with his Toronto Maple Leafs contract winding now, one would expect that the team wants to negotiate a deal.
However, during the Leafs introductory press conference on Wednesday, Marner had some interesting comments when asked about his Leafs contract. Essentially, he isn't all that interested in talking about it right now. Instead, he would much rather think about the upcoming season. This is understandable although some are at least a little bit concerned.
In a new article from The Athletic, Marner's agent Darren Ferris revealed why they aren't giving any information on the negotiation process.
"To maintain the integrity of ongoing negotiations, it is essential that these discussions remain confidential and are conducted in a constructive manner. As such, we will not be providing public updates on their status at this time."
The explanation makes a lot of sense, although Leafs fans will likely be at least a little concerned, no matter what is said. Fans want the team's core to stay together, no matter what. However, if the team has a bad postseason, then there is no telling whether or not the team will keep it all together.
