Details of a failed blockbuster trade between the Utah Mammoth and the New York Islanders have been released per David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period.

The 2025 NHL Entry Draft is officially in the books, and while the Utah Mammoth received the 4th overall pick in the Draft Lottery, there were rumors about them trying to trade the pick.
Per a report from David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period prior to the Draft, Mammoth GM Bill Armstrong had envisioned acquiring a top-six proven NHL forward in return for the 4th pick if they moved it.
The Utah Mammoth are believed to be open to moving the fourth-overall pick. Some believe Utah GM Bill Armstrong will consider trading the pick for a young top-six, NHL-proven forward.

But no deal came about, and the Mammoth used the pick to take Caleb Nesnoyers 4th overall.
Now, more reports have surfaced from Pagnotta about the possibility of the Mammoth wanting to trade the 4th pick to the New York Islanders in return for Matthew Barzal.
David Pagnotta: Re Utah and the 4th overall pick: They wanted Matt Barzal; I was told by someone with the Islanders, we like James Hagens, but we don't like him that much - Sekeres and Price
Both the Islanders and the Mammoth, who were previously known as the Utah Hockey Club for their 1st year in Salt Lake City, missed the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
For the Islanders, it was their 1st miss in several years, while the Mammoth hadn't qualified since 2020 when they were known as the Arizona Coyotes.
